ABOUT JANICE

About Me

I bring direct challenge and deep partnership so leaders can cut through noise, reclaim clarity, and lead with renewed force. In my work, honesty is expected, challenge is welcomed, and growth comes from confronting what's real rather than what's comfortable.

I draw deeply from the tough, no-nonsense wisdom of Stoic and Existential philosophies—recognizing what's in our control, owning our choices, and boldly carving a path through this unpredictable and often absurd world. But here's the thing: life's too serious to take it too seriously.

Like the day I stood in the wand room at Harry Potter Studios in London, surrounded by the magic of possibility, I believe even the most serious work benefits from a little fun and wonder. My coaching blends purpose and pragmatism with a sense of humor, helping clients tackle real challenges while embracing the joy of the journey.

As your coach, I'm not here to be your friend. I'm your unwavering ally and unflinching thought partner—here to help you dig deep, uncover what's actually true, and make bold, meaningful changes. This journey is not for the faint-hearted. But if you're ready to be challenged, I'm ready to walk alongside you.

My Journey to Coaching

After the first time I was laid off (or as I prefer to say, "invited to leave") at age 39, I told my husband I was fulfilling a lifelong dream to live in Spain and learn Spanish. I spent four months meeting amazing people and developing a wicked Spanish accent (fluency escapes me). After my second "invitation to leave" a job I loved at age 47, I took the opportunity to step away from corporate America to pursue my passion for helping others access the power and magic that lives inside them.

Before coaching, I spent 25 years in management at industry-shaping companies including T-Mobile, Expedia, and the UN Foundation. At T-Mobile, I held leadership roles within the Technology group and chaired the Women's Leadership Network. That experience grounds my coaching in organizational reality—I know what it's like to navigate competing priorities, lead through ambiguity, and make hard calls without a playbook.

Over the eight years since I made the leap, I've developed a thriving coaching business and enjoy the deep satisfaction of engaging in Right Livelihood. I launched a podcast called "I Am Virago," focusing on fabulous women doing amazing things in the world, imperfectly. I planned on 52 episodes and produced 26 in six months (weekly podcasting is hard work!). I took the plunge, partnered with a group of powerful women, and wrote a chapter in the book "Women Who Illuminate." The book became an international bestseller.

The road has been bumpy. I've tripped now and again, skinned my knees, and have the scars to show for it. Without question, the rewards have been beyond worth it. And besides, I hear scars are sexy.
